Frequently Asked Questions

I have been caring for children for over ten years and I recently decided to open a center. So, I thought I needed a director's credential and I better get started now. I found your program online, and got to work. I thought this will be easy, because I know childcare. However, to my surprise the online program was good, it kept me thinking and I learned many interesting things. I have a registered childcare home now and I know that once I open my center in the spring I will be successful thanks to my Texas Director Training.--Tiffany Brandon, http://www.littlegigglesandgrins.com/ Grand Prairie, Texas

What is the fee for the program?

The Director Credentialing Course is designed to be affordable and manageable for programs.

  • The course range from $425.00 to $800, depending on which class you choose.
  • The Basic course is $425 and can be started at any time, although they are scheduled to start twice a month.
  • The On-Demand course is $475 and is a hybrid online class with videos and supplementary trainings.
  • The Weekender course is $575.  It also has an in-person small class.  The class is limited to 6 students and is only offered 6 times a year.
  • Twice a year our Director Success Academy is offered for $800.  Students can upgrade to the Director Success Academy class at anytime in their career.

Should I get my CDA or my director credential?

The CDA designation is a wonderful designation for classroom teachers to show their professional credentials.  The CDA will cover the child development part of what a Director needs to know, but doesn't cover any of the staffing, financial, marketing, compliance, or management knowledge you will need.

Although the CDA is listed as one educational option to become a director for the state of Texas you are also required to have an additional 6 college credit hours in business. If you choose that route, we suggest you evaluate what areas you most need additional training in and enroll in those classes.

What is the renewal process?

Our credential is good for one year. Each year the director is responsible for renewing their credential with Texasdirector.org.

You do NOT have to take the course again.

  1. The renewal requirements are to obtain the required training that licensing requires of you depending on how long you have been a director.
  2. Fill out an online application at texasdirector.org - at least 30 days before your renewal date to ensure our review committee has time to review your training.  We do not ask for copies of training at the time of application - however the committee does review certificates once a month of a few directors.  If you are selected you need to immediately send up copies by fax or email
  3. Renewal fee

Texasdirector.org is designed to be with you as your program grows and changes. If you have questions during the year as a current director with the 4star renewal you get 30 minutes of phone coaching a month during the year.

I took this course in September of 2010. I had tried a different online course but was offered no book to study or guidelines for lessons. The book offered in this program was helpful and easy to understand. The lessons were great and the directors were very clear and simple to follow. I would certainly recommend this course for anyone wanting to obtain their Director Credentials. Also anytime I called or email with a question I received and quick response.--Jan Eason – St. Pauls, Richardson, TX
